"Free my friend" - Davido calls for the release of VeryDarkMan.

In a post on X, Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, praised online activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, for his positive impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians, despite facing hostilities from authorities.

Davido called for the release of VeryDarkMan following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, which sparked widespread reactions on social media, with mixed opinions from netizens. While the EFCC has largely remained silent about the details of the arrest, Davido has stepped in to advocate for the activist's release.

In his post, Davido highlighted the significant support VeryDarkMan has received since his arrest, noting that this backing encourages him to continue advocating for the masses. He wrote, “Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does actually impact lives and people appreciate it! The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging and makes one want to do more for the masses ❤️ FREE MY GUY.”

Similarly, Nigerian singer and saxophonist Seun Kuti also commented on VeryDarkMan’s arrest, suggesting that it may be connected to his criticism of the Nigerian church. Seun indicated that his insights were based on discussions with VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.

He stated, “VDM’s lawyer is my lawyer, and we’re currently involved in a case with GTBank and other banks. No bank in Nigeria is a good bank.” Furthermore, Seun explained that VeryDarkMan is facing persecution from the Christian community in Nigeria due to his criticisms of them. He asserted, “As the federal government runs our country, these prominent pastors run Nigeria. The people of God are the ones fighting VDM for speaking the truth.”
