The Presidency explains why Tinubu asked ministers to provide accountability for their actions.

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu has ordered periodic press briefings for cabinet members due to some ministers' failure to provide accountability. This initiative is set to begin next week, as the Federal Government plans for ministers to update Nigerians on various government policies and activities.

During a disclosure in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the President mandated these regular engagements to enhance transparency and accountability within the administration. The briefings will serve as a platform for ministers to spotlight significant developments in their ministries, address public inquiries, and counter misinformation.

Idris noted that in 2024, the government successfully hosted 25 ministers at these briefings, reaching millions of people both in Nigeria and globally through various media channels. He elaborated that 2025 is intended to be a year of consolidation, building upon the progress achieved in the administration's first 19 months.

The announcement has sparked speculation that the new directive could be a strategy for evaluating ministerial performance, potentially leading to a cabinet reshuffle in anticipation of President Tinubu's second anniversary in office.
