The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the outcomes of candidates who sat for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, there are currently investigations underway regarding 64,624 results.

This disclosure was made by Prof. Is-haq Oloyede (the Board Registrar) during a press briefing in Bwari on Monday.

According to Oloyede, a total of 1,989,668 candidates enrolled for the exams that took place across 118 cities in 774 Computer Based Test Centers (CBT).

The registrar reported that 1,904,109 candidates took the exam and only 80,810 were absent.

In his explanation, he stated that there were 64,624 results being scrutinized for a variety of reasons. These include verification (2,896), procedural investigations (4,594) and confirmed cases of exam misconduct at first glance(78).

According to him, investigations are being conducted on other results from 18 centers across the country which involves a total of 57,056 candidates.

A total of 18 centres were earmarked for investigation, with 12 situated in Edo, three in Akwa Ibom, two in Delta and one located within Kwara State.

In the 2024 UTME, there were only a handful of infractions observed by the Board, which is a significant decrease from last year's reported cases.

He said that this is optimistic and the board is ready to unite over the achievements made.

According to Oloyede during the results analysis, 0.5% of candidates (8,401) scored 300 and above while 4.2% of candidates (77,070) scored at least 250 marks.

According to him, 439,974 candidates which accounts for 24 percent obtained a score of 200 and above while the remaining1,402,490 candidates making up 76 percent scored below that mark.

The number of candidates who registered for the examination totaled 1,989,668 which represents a significant increase by 24.7% compared to the figure recorded in 2023.

Out of a total 1,989,668 registered individuals, 1,904,189 were present and confirmed while another 2.899 were in attendance but unconfirmed; the remaining 80.810 did not show up at all.

More than 1 million girls have registered for the examination, indicating a noteworthy increase in female enrolment.

For the first time in three years, females will outnumber their male counterparts.

3,164 individuals with disabilities were registered out of the total enrollment. This marks a 36.2% rise in PLWD enrolment compared to the previous year.

According to him, "The Board will be publishing the outcomes of 1,842,464 test-takers today. However, 64,624 scores are currently being scrutinized."

He explained that the board had imposed a limitation on disclosing the name of the top candidate, as it was precautionary measure in anticipation of any potential controversies during its 2023 examination similar to Mmesomma saga.

During the examination process, there were hiccups in 25 sessions which adversely affected only 150 out of a total of 9,156 sessions conducted across 95 different centers. The registrar provided this explanation.

According to him, the impacted sessions were quickly rescheduled. He also mentioned that Makama School of Technology in Old Motor Park off FCCE Road in Bichi, Kano State was removed from the list due to poor performance.

Candidates were encouraged to verify their results by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 starting at 7 a.m. on April 30, according to NAN.
